Indian team captain Rohit Sharma said on Wednesday that former head coach Rahul Dravid, selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah supported him fully in his effort to get the best out of the players without worrying about the results, which resulted in India winning the T20 World Cup under his leadership.
Under the leadership of Rohit, India won the ICC T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup played in the US and West Indies in June. This was India's second T20 World Cup title after 2007 and Rohit also ended his career in the shortest format with that victory in Barbados.
'I got a lot of help from my three pillars'
After being named the best male international cricketer of the year at an event, Rohit said, it was my dream to change this team and not worry too much about statistics, and results, to ensure that we create an environment where people can go to the field and play freely without thinking too much. This was what was needed. I got a lot of help from my three pillars which are Jay Shah, Rahul Dravid, and the chairman of the selection committee Ajit Agarkar. What I did was very important to me and of course not to forget the players who came in at different times and helped the team achieve what we achieved.
'The feeling of winning the World Cup cannot be expressed in words'
Rohit said that winning the World Cup was something that can never be expressed in words. He said it was a feeling that cannot come every day. When we won the World Cup, it was important for all of us to enjoy the moment, which we did quite well, and also thank our country for celebrating with us. As much as it mattered to us, it meant as much to the whole country. It felt great to bring it back home and celebrate with everyone here.
