Petitions have already been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the killing of mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf in the presence of the police. In these, a demand has been made to form a committee under the chairmanship of a former Supreme Court judge to investigate the matter. Now the UP government has filed a caveat in this matter.

The Yogi government has demanded through this caveat that no order should be passed in this matter without hearing its side.

Significantly, there was a demand in the Supreme Court for the formation of a committee under the chairmanship of a former Supreme Court judge to investigate the murder of Atiq and Ashraf. The court has directed to list the matter for April 28. The petition has been filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari, who has sought a probe into 183 encounters in UP since 2017. Tiwari demanded an urgent hearing in the matter before a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha. However, the court directed to list the matter on April 28.

Another petition has been filed in the matter

Former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur has also filed a letter petition in the Supreme Court demanding a CBI inquiry into the murder of Atiq Ahmed and his brother under the supervision of the Supreme Court or the High Court. Amitabh Thakur has said in the petition that 'even if Atiq Ahmed and his brother are criminals, the manner in which they were killed shows ample possibility of state funding of this incident'.
