Hyderabad, March 6 (IANS) The South Central Railway (SCR) realised Rs.8.11 crore in penalties last month from ticketless travellers, irregular travellers and for carrying unauthorised luggage.
SCR detected 2.25 lakh cases in February. The number of cases is 17.4 percent higher compared to the cases booked in the corresponding period last year.
To ensure comfortable and safe travel for bona fide passengers, ticket checking staff and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel undertook checks in the six divisions of the zone, said a SCR statement.
The detected cases include 80,117 cases of travel without ticket; 89,360 cases of irregular travel and 85,748 cases of carrying luggage without booking.
From April 2014 to February 2015, the railway authorities in the zone detected 27.72 lakh cases. These include 8.69 lakh cases of travel without tickets; 9.65 lakh cases of irregular travel and 9.37 lakh cases of unauthorised luggage.
An amount of Rs.90.4 crore was realized from the offenders towards penalties which is 18.46 percent more than the penalties realised during the same period of the last financial year, it added.
