Shubman Gill's Birthday: 'Prince' turns 26; fastest 2000 runs in ODIs and average of 59, created many unique records

Indian cricket team's Test captain Shubman Gill turned 26 today. Fans on social media have wished him a happy birthday by calling him 'The Prince'. Gill is considered one of the most stylish and reliable batsmen of the current era. So far, in his six-year international career, he has made many records in his name.

 

This year, he was handed over the Test captaincy, while in limited overs formats he is the vice-captain of the Indian team. He is considered to be the successor of 'King' Virat Kohli.

 

Great records in Test and ODI

 

Shubman Gill has made many big records in his short career. He is second overall and first among Indians in scoring the most runs (754) in a series as a captain in Test cricket. He made this record recently on the England tour. He missed breaking Don Bradman's record of 810 runs.

 

Apart from this, he also holds the unique record of scoring a century and zero (duck) in the same Test match. He is also included in the list of batsmen who have scored a double century in one innings and a century in the second innings in the same Test. He is joint second overall and joint top among Indians in terms of scoring the most centuries in a Test. Gill scored four centuries on the England tour and equaled Sunil Gavaskar. The list is topped by former West Indies batsman Walcott, who scored five centuries in Australia in 1955.

 

Gill has the second-highest career batting average (59.04) in ODI cricket. He is just behind Ryan Ten Doeschate, whose average is 67.00. He became the first player to complete 2000 runs in ODIs at the fastest pace (in just 38 innings). He is seventh in the list of batsmen who scored the most runs in ODIs in a calendar year (1584 runs).

 

Gill's international career

 

Gill has so far scored 2647 runs in 37 Test matches at an average of 41.35. These include nine centuries and seven half-centuries. At the same time, in ODIs, he has scored 2775 runs in 55 matches at an average of 59.04. These include eight centuries and 15 half-centuries. Apart from this, Gill has scored 578 runs in 21 T20 international matches at an average of 30.42 and a strike rate of 139.27. These include one century and three half-centuries.
