SRH vs KKR: Kolkata won by nine runs; Sunrisers got their sixth defeat, could not score 38 runs in the last 30 balls to win

Sunrisers Hyderabad needed nine runs in the last over. The ball was in the hands of Man of the Match Varun Chakraborty and Abdul Samad was in front. Here Varun once again showed why he is called the mystery spinner. He not only dismissed Samad (21) on the third ball but gave away just three runs in the over to give Kolkata Knight Riders a thrilling five-run win.

 

Kolkata scored 171 for nine thanks to a 40-ball 61-run partnership between captain Nitish Rana (42) and Rinku Singh (46) for the fourth wicket. At one time Hyderabad needed 38 runs in 30 balls, but Sunrisers could only manage 166 runs for eight wickets. This was Kolkata's fourth win.

 

Sunrisers top order collapses

Chasing a target of 172 runs, Mayank Agarwal gave Hyderabad a brisk start by scoring 18 runs in 11 balls, but he became the victim of Harshit Rana in the third over. Abhishek Sharma (9) also got out early. Rahul Tripathi hit Russell for two fours and a six in the sixth over, but in the same over he was dismissed for 20 runs in nine balls. Hyderabad's score was reduced to 54 for four in the next over when Harry Brook (0) was dismissed.

 

Markram and Klaasen shared a 70-run partnership

After the fall of four wickets, Aiden Markram and Klaasen handled the innings. Both shared a 70-run partnership in 47 balls. Klaasen was playing outspoken. He scored 36 runs in 20 balls with the help of one four and three sixes. He was dismissed by Shardul Thakur.

 

Markram's strange stroke backfired

Hyderabad needed 38 runs in the last 5 overs. Captain Markram was at the crease and Abdul Samad was supporting him. It seemed that both would easily lead the team to victory, but here Markram was caught at long off by putting a strange stroke on Vaibhav Arora's ball. He scored 41 runs in 40 balls. After his dismissal, Hyderabad had to score 27 runs in 19 balls.

 

Jansen took two wickets in his first over

Earlier, KKR captain Nitish Rana won the toss and decided to bat first. Marco Jansen made Rahmanullah Gurbaz the victim of a golden duck (zero on the first ball). In the same over, he got Venkatesh Iyer (7) caught by Klaasen behind the wicket. Karthik Tyagi, who came to play after a long time, also sent opener Jason Roy (20) to the pavilion. KKR's score in the powerplay was 49 for three.

 

Kolkata scored 42 runs in the last 5 overs

Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh took over for KKR after the fall of three wickets. Both shared a 61-run partnership in 40 balls. Rana hit a four and two sixes in the 10th over bowled by Karthik Tyagi. In the 11th over, Markram caught Rana running behind his ball. Rana scored 42 runs in 31 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes.

 

Rinku took Kolkata beyond 170 runs

Andre Russell scored 24 runs in 15 balls with the help of two sixes, and one four, but he was also dismissed in the 15th over. In 15 overs, KKR had scored 129 runs for five wickets and Rinku was at the crease. However, wickets kept falling at the other end. In the last five overs, KKR scored just 42 runs and lost four wickets. In the last over, T Natarajan gave only three runs and took two wickets. Rinku also got out in the same over after scoring 46 runs in 35 balls with the help of four fours and a six.
