Sukhbir Badal: Deadly attack on Sukhbir Badal... Firing at the gate of the Golden Temple in Amritsar; the attacker caught

Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Badal has been attacked in Amritsar, Punjab. He was shot at in the Golden Temple, although he is safe. He had reached Sri Harmandir Sahib to undergo the religious punishment given by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

 

The police have arrested the accused Narayan Singh Chaura. According to sources, the attacker Narayan Singh Chaura has been a terrorist of Babbar Khalsa International. Chaura went to Pakistan in 1984 and helped smuggle large consignments of weapons and explosives into Punjab during the initial phase of terrorism. While in Pakistan, he has also allegedly written a book on guerrilla warfare and anti-national literature. He is also an accused in the Burail jailbreak case. Narayan has previously served a sentence in a Punjab jail.

 

The incident happened at 9:30 in the morning.

 

According to the information, Sukhbir Singh Badal was present near the gate of Sri Harmandir Sahib towards the clock tower at around 9:30 am on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a person came and fired a bullet from his pocket which passed by Sukhbir Badal and hit the wall.

 

Immediately after this, the security personnel surrounded Sukhbir Singh Badal and caught the accused as well. At present, the accused has been handed over to the police and the matter is being investigated. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was also deployed on the other side of the gate. At the same time, the sound of firing in Darbar Sahib created an atmosphere of panic among the Sangat.

 

The accused is from Dera Baba Nanak

 

According to the information, the accused has been identified as Narayan Singh Chaura. The accused is from Dera Baba Nanak and is said to be related to Dal Khalsa. After firing the bullet, the people standing around Sukhbir Badal immediately caught him and raised his hands. The incident took place in front of the main gate. Sukhbir Badal has a fracture in his leg, so he is performing seva by sitting on a chair.

 

The accused had come to the Golden Temple on Tuesday as well.

 

According to sources, the accused was seen roaming in Sri Harmandir Sahib on Tuesday as well. On the other hand, after receiving intelligence input, the police were also alert and keeping an eye on him. Akali leaders alleged that the police had been negligent in the security of Sukhbir Badal.

 

On the other hand, ADCP Harpal Singh said that there were strong security arrangements. Sukhbir Badal was given proper security. The attacker was here yesterday too... today he first bowed to Guru Ji. No one was shot.

 

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that due to the alertness and deployment of our police personnel, this attack attempt was foiled. Our personnel Rishpal Singh, Jasbir, and Parminder showed alertness and foiled the attempts.

 

Narayan Singh Chaura has a criminal record, he has been arrested. A case has been registered. Adequate arrangements were made for the security of Sukhbir Singh Badal. Strong security arrangements were made... Deployment for security is done according to the threat perception. Therefore, heavy deployment was done. There are several cases registered against Choura, weapons were recovered from him in the past, and we are checking the records.
