Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mauritius on Tuesday on a two-day state visit. PM Modi was given a grand and warm welcome in Mauritius in Port Louis. Top personalities including Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam welcomed PM Modi. PM Navin garlanded PM Modi and welcomed him to his country by hugging him. During this, PM Modi was also given a guard of honor.
Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Mauritius, Speaker of the National Assembly, Leader of the Opposition, Foreign Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Chairman of Grand Port District Council, and many others to welcome PM Modi.
According to the information, a total of 200 dignitaries were present at the airport to welcome Prime Minister Modi, including MPs, MLAs, diplomatic corps and religious leaders. During his visit, PM Modi will attend the National Day celebrations of the island country as the chief guest and will hold meetings with the top leadership of the country.
After the grand welcome, Prime Minister Modi tweeted, 'I have reached Mauritius. I am grateful to my friend Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam for welcoming me at the airport. This visit is a great opportunity to meet a valued friend and explore new avenues of cooperation in various fields. Today I will meet President Dharam Gokhool and Prime Minister Ramgoolam and will address a community event in the evening.'
PM Modi's visit is taking place at the invitation of Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam. During the visit, the two countries will sign several agreements for cooperation in the areas of skill development, trade, and combating cross-border financial crimes.
Before leaving for Mauritius, PM Modi had said on Monday that his visit will add a new and bright chapter to the relations between the two countries. PM Modi will meet the President of Mauritius, hold meetings with the Prime Minister and will also hold meetings with senior dignitaries, leaders of political parties of the island nation. He will also interact with members of the Indian community and inaugurate the Civil Services College and Regional Health Center, which have been constructed with grant assistance from India.
In a statement issued before leaving for Mauritius, PM Modi said, "I look forward to the opportunity to join with the Mauritian leadership to strengthen our enduring friendship and enhance our partnership in all its aspects for the progress and prosperity of our people as well as security and development in the Indian Ocean region under our 'SAGAR Vision'. 'SAGAR' stands for 'Security and Growth for All in the Region'. A contingent of the Indian Armed Forces, a warship of the Indian Navy, and the Akash Ganga 'Skydiving Team' of the Indian Air Force will participate in the (Mauritius National Day) celebrations.
PM Modi said, "Mauritius is a close maritime neighbor, a major partner, and the gateway to the African continent in the Indian Ocean. We are connected by history, geography, and culture." He said that deep mutual trust, shared belief in the values of democracy, and pride in our diversity are our strengths. PM Modi last visited Mauritius in 2015.

In 2023-24, Mauritius is the second largest source of foreign investment in India after Singapore.
