Even after a year of Taliban rule in Afghanistan, effective steps have not been taken for the education of women. In such a situation, Afghan women's rights activists have started a library. It aims to bring back women deprived of education and their basic rights to education.
The Taliban have made it a rule that women should not leave home without a male relative. Also, your face should be covered. The Taliban also reneged on its promise to open secondary schools for girls. After which secondary schools for girls are largely closed.
The library started with the help of women workers
Julia Parsi, one of the women who started the library, said that there are two objectives of starting the library. First for girls who cannot go to school and college, and second for women who have lost their jobs. There are more than 1000 books in the library. These include politics, science, and economics as well as story books and novels.
Most of the books in the library have come from teachers, poets, and writers. He donated these books to the Crystal Bayt Foundation. This foundation helped start the library. At the same time, many women activists who took part in the protests in the last few months also helped in this. After this, the library could be started in a rented shop in the mall.
Films were allowed to be screened this month
On the other hand, the Taliban has allowed the screening of films in Afghanistan this month after almost a year. A total of 37 films will be screened. A film artist named Abdul Sabor has welcomed the move but feels that the roles of Afghan female characters in these films are either limited or non-existent.
Refusal to allow Afghan women to leave the country for education
The Taliban have barred women from leaving Kabul to pursue higher education. Recently some students were ready to leave Kabul for higher education. Among them were women students along with men, but only men were allowed to leave Kabul. The Taliban have issued an order that Afghan women cannot leave the country for education.
