South Africa had set a target of 549 runs. The world Test champions bowled out India for 140 in the second innings and won by 408 runs. This is the second time in 13 months that India has been clean-swept by a team in a Test series at home. Previously, in October-November 2024, New Zealand defeated India 3-0 in a three-match Test series.

Gambhir said in the press conference, "The BCCI will decide on my future. I have said before that Indian cricket is important, not me. Gambhir said, "Everyone is to blame, starting with me. We should have played better. Going from 95/1 to 122/7 is unacceptable." You can't blame any one player or shot. Everyone is at fault. I never blame anyone, and I won't allow that to happen.
