India did not win any medals in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, 1988 Seoul, and 1992 Barcelona Olympics. India won three medals including one gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and India was ranked 50. In the 2012 London Olympics, India won six medals and was ranked 55. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, India was ranked 48. India won seven medals in this and it was India's most successful Olympics in terms of medals.
India has won the most medals in field hockey in the Olympics. The country has got 13 medals including eight gold, one silver, and four bronze from this sport. After this, India has got the maximum eight medals in wrestling in the Olympics. Four medals have been won in athletics i.e. track and field, seven medals in shooting, three medals in badminton, two medals in weightlifting, three medals in boxing, and one medal in tennis. In the 2024 Paris Olympics, India won medals in hockey, athletics, shooting, and wrestling, but India did not get any medals in badminton, weightlifting, boxing and tennis.
