A student from Tamil Nadu, India, is reported to have joined the Ukrainian paramilitary to take part in the war against Russia.
This student from the Thudiyalur area of Coimbatore district had gone to Ukraine to study engineering. Sai Nikesh completed his schooling in 2018 and after that tried twice to enter the Indian Army but he did not get success.
According to Sai's relatives, after not getting admission in the Indian Army, he considered ways to enter the US Army, but nothing happened there, so the family sent Sai to the National Aerospace University in Kharkiv to study aerospace engineering.
When Russia's attack on Ukraine started, Indian students were trying to get out of Kharkiv, but despite repeated requests from family members, Sai Nikesh did not try to get out of there.
When BBC Tamil tried to contact Sai Nikesh's family members, they said that they are not in a mental state to talk to the media at this time.
Intelligence officers met family members
A relative of Sai Nikesh told the BBC on condition of anonymity, "Joining the army has been Nikesh's old dream. He did not succeed in India. His parents sent him to Ukraine to study engineering. But the army The desire to join continued. He has told me at his home that he is joining a gaming company. No one knew that his desire to join the military would be like this."
According to this relative, no one knows why he took such a decision. The family members have got information about this step of Nikesh from the intelligence department of the police.
Nikesh's relative said, "After this, the intelligence officers of the Ministry of Defense have met and questioned the family members."
The relative claims that the family members are under a lot of stress right now and they do not want to talk to the media. He told, "I told the family members not to contact Nikesh again and again. Because in such a situation none of us knows how to get him out of there."
He also said, "We have not been able to contact Nikesh ever since this news was published in the media. I have sent him voice notes on WhatsApp that there is no panic and we can face any situation. We all want to bring Sai Nikesh back safely."
'The boy joined the paramilitary of his choice'
When BBC Tamil tried to contact the Police Intelligence Department, they told that they have as much information as is published in the media.
An intelligence department official said, "It seems that this boy has joined the paramilitary of his choice, we have not been able to contact him so there is not much information about there but we are gathering information."
