Tigers in India: 1059 tigers have died in the country since 2012, know how many died in the state

Since 2012, 1,059 tigers have died in India. Madhya Pradesh is known as the 'Tiger State' and has recorded the highest number of tiger deaths. This information was given by government figures.

 

According to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), 75 tigers have died so far this year, compared to 127 last year. This is the highest in the period 2012 to 2022.

 

According to government data, 106 tigers died in 2020, 96 in 2019, 101 in 2018, 117 in 2017, 121 in 2016, 82 in 2015, 78 in 2014, 68 in 2013, and 88 in 2012. . There are six tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh. It recorded the highest number of deaths (270) during the period 2012-2022.

 

It is followed by Maharashtra (183), Karnataka (150), Uttarakhand (96), Assam (72), and Tamil Nadu (66). 55 tigers died in Uttar Pradesh (56) and Kerala. Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh accounted for 25, 17, 13, 11, and 11 tiger deaths respectively.

 

In eight years, 193 tigers died due to poaching

 

According to the data, 193 tigers died due to poaching between 2012-2020. Data on deaths due to poaching since January 2021 are not yet available. Officials have cited captivity as the reason for the death of 108 tigers, while 44 tigers died due to natural causes during this period. According to the NTCA, poaching was initially believed to be the cause of all tiger deaths.
