After the coup of the Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh (Bangladesh Violence), an interim government will be formed under the leadership of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. The coming to power of the new government means changes in foreign diplomacy as well.
The departure of the Sheikh Hasina government (Sheikh Hasina Resignation) has also increased India's concern. It is believed that parties like Bangladesh National Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami can come to power. These parties are inclined towards China and Pakistan.
Border security is the biggest concern
The 4096 km long international border between India and Bangladesh is the fifth largest land border in the world. Bangladesh shares its border with five states. This entire region has a vast area of plains, water, hills, and forest areas and its population is also very high. Due to the instability spread in the neighboring country, many people may think of migrating from there to India. The influx of refugees from Bangladesh into the country may increase, which is a threat to the security of the country.
Sheikh Hasina has always supported India. During her tenure, a lot of work has been done between the two countries in areas such as energy, connectivity, and infrastructure. At the same time, the cooperation of the two countries has also been good in the trade sector.
Teesta River Conservation Project may hang in the balance
The two countries have been in talks for the last few years regarding the Teesta Irrigation Project. The Teesta River Conservation Project has been discussed between PM Narendra Modi and Sheikh Hasina. China also has an evil eye on this project. If there is a change in the policies of the Bangladesh government, then it is obvious that it can have a bad effect on this project as well.
Trade can also be adversely affected
India and Bangladesh have been a major trading partner. According to the data available on ibef.org, the total trade between the two countries in the financial year 2023-24 was $ 14.22 billion. In FY 2023, 6,052 items were exported from India to Bangladesh. This export figure was $12.20 billion, which was less than $16.15 billion in FY 2022.

So will Bangladesh become another Pakistan?
The biggest concern for India is that Sheikh Hasina's son has informed that his mother will no longer make a political comeback. Hasina's son and former official advisor Sajeeb Wazed Jay made this claim. Sajeeb said that his mother Hasina has left the country at the request of the family.
In an interview with Newshour on the BBC World Service, Zay said his mother would not make a political comeback. According to news agency IANS, Zay feared that if the BNP-Jamaat alliance came to power, Bangladesh would become another Pakistan.
