Sydney, Feb 28 (IANS) West Indies top order batsman Darren Bravo has been ruled out of the cricket World Cup after failing to recover in time from a hamstring injury.
The left-hander limped out of the game against Pakistan in Christchurch Feb 21 with a lower-grade tear to his left hamstring and has been receiving treatment ever since. He was ruled out of the games against Zimbabwe and against South Africa, reports CMC.
“Unfortunately Darren has not recovered as we hoped and will have to be replaced. He still cannot run and will return home to continue his rehabilitation," team media manager Philip Spooner said.
A replacement will be named Sunday.
Bravo made 49 against Pakistan before pulling up in the 32nd over while taking a quick single. He did not take the field as the West Indies went on to win by 150 runs.
He has had a mixed tour with scores of 0 and 43 in the warm-up matches before being run out without facing a ball in the opening Pool B game against Ireland which West Indies lost by four wickets.
Bravo was returning to action after missing the recent tour of South Africa for "personal reasons".
Following their 257-run thrashing at the Sydney Cricket Ground here Friday, West Indies will head to Perth to prepare for their next game against reigning World champions India Friday.
They wrap up their Pool B campaign against the United Arab Emirates March 14 at McLean Park in Napier.
