The Indian team has not won a single ICC trophy since 2013. During this, Team India has been disappointed in two ODI World Cups, four T20 World Cups, and two ICC Test World Championships. Now India is going to host the World Cup in October-November. This time the team is expected to lift the trophy. For this Indian players are sweating profusely. At the same time, plans are being made outside the field as well. In this sequence, there has been a long conversation between BCCI Secretary Jai Shah and coach Rahul Dravid.
There has been a meeting between Jay Shah and Dravid for about two hours. The two met before the last two T20Is against the West Indies in Florida, USA. It is being said that this conversation between the two is a regular process, but it has been claimed in media reports that there was a long conversation regarding the Asia Cup and the World Cup. The meeting took place in the hotel where Jai Shah was staying. Whereas, Team India was in another hotel. In such a situation, Rahul Dravid had to go to him. Jay Shah was in the US for a private tour and was seen on television during the fifth and final T20 match on 13 August.
The coaching staff may increase
It may look like a routine meeting, but its importance cannot be underestimated. It is clear that during this meeting, some special planning for the Asia Cup and the World Cup must have been done. After this meeting, it has come to light that the coaching staff can be increased. Just before the 2021 T20 World Cup, the BCCI had roped in former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a mentor.
The Asia Cup is scheduled to be held from August 30. No information has been revealed so far about the players joining the camp for the preparation of this tournament. As per reports, all the players will assemble in Bengaluru on August 23 and the camp will start in Alur on August 24. Significantly, this meeting is taking place amid the dismal performance of the Indian team. The recent results have drawn a lot of criticism from the team. BCCI is hosting the World Cup. In such a situation, the board wants to see the team lift the trophy.
Keeping an eye on Bumrah before team selection
The selection committee is yet to get the information about when the team will be finalized for the Asia Cup. It is estimated that the selection process will take place in the coming days. Some sources suggest that the selection could happen after the first T20I in Ireland. The team management wants to see Jasprit Bumrah play on the field for once. Bumrah has been sidelined from professional cricket since September 2022 due to injury. After seeing his fitness in the first T20, the team management will take a decision.
All eyes are on Rahul and Iyer
As far as KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are concerned, both of them recently participated in a practice match at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. If both are fit to play then it will be great news for Team India. The middle order of the Indian team looks very weak in the absence of Rahul and Iyer. If both of them return then the team will be stronger.
