Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigned from the post on 14 July. Before resigning, he had fled to Singapore via the Maldives. After his resignation, a special session of Parliament was convened and his resignation sent from Singapore was read out.
Gotabaya was seen saving himself
Gotabaya Rajapaksa appeared to defend himself in his resignation. "I have served my motherland to the best of my ability and will continue to do so in the future also," he said. Rajapaksa said that he took excellent steps like trying to form an all-party government to counter the economic slowdown. I tried my best to save people from the pandemic despite already being constrained by the bad economic environment. During 2020 and 2021 I had to order a lockdown and the forex situation kept deteriorating.
Gotabaya had fled before resigning
