Food delivery app Zomato is now set to make home delivery of alcohol in India. According to a Reuters report, Zomato CEO Mohit Gupta has said, "Responsible consumption of alcohol can be promoted if alcohol is delivered home with the help of technology." Explain that the legal age of consumption of alcohol in different states of the country is 18 to 25 years. Jomato said that she will target only those areas where corona virus infection is very low. Meanwhile, the Punjab government is going to make home delivery of liquor from Thursday i.e. today. However, liquor shops will also be open in the state during this period.
At present, the demand for alcohol is being seen across the country. Now the company is ready to take advantage of this. Please tell that after Lockdown 3.0, the company has also started grocery delivery. In fact, after the restaurant was closed, its impact on the business of the company was seen, after which Jomato also started doing grocery delivery.
No legal provision for home delivery
If we talk about the law, there is no legal provision for home delivery of alcohol at this time. The alcohol industry body International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI) has been consistently demanding that the government approve home delivery of alcohol. If the government approves this, then the home delivery of alcohol will be cleared for Zomato. Amrit Kiran Singh, executive chairman of ISWAI, says that the state has suffered a major setback on the revenue front due to the lockdown. In such a situation, home delivery of alcohol can help in increasing revenue. His biggest challenge is that the states continue to get revenue from the sale of liquor. In such a situation, it is necessary to reduce the crowds from retail stores.
Several kilometers long lines on contracts
Liquor shops were closed since March 25 due to the nationwide lockdown. Approval was given to open these shops this week, after which several kilometers long lines were seen on contracts to buy liquor. To control this crowd, the Delhi government had decided to impose a 70 percent 'special corona fee'. At the same time, they had to close two days after opening liquor shops in Mumbai. According to a report, in the year 2018, the total in India was $ 27.2 billion i.e. about 2.04 lakh crore rupees.
The Punjab government has taken an important decision regarding the sale of alcohol in the third phase of the lockdown implemented for the prevention of corona virus. Now people in Punjab will be able to get their liquor sitting at home. The Punjab government is going to make home delivery of liquor from Thursday i.e. today. However, liquor shops will also be open in the state during this period. These shops will only open for four hours from 9 am to 1 pm. At the same time, the Chhattisgarh government has also launched a portal for home delivery of liquor. The state government took this step in view of the huge crowd at the liquor shops. Through this, people will be able to get liquor sitting at home. However, this service will be available only to those people who are in the Green Zone.
