The Karnataka government has made the online booking of autorickshaws illegal on ride-hailing apps of Ola, Uber, and Rapido from Wednesday (October 12). The decision was taken after a meeting held on Tuesday between the Karnataka Transport and Road Safety Department and representatives of mobility players. According to sources, Transport Commissioner THM Kumar held a meeting with the three companies. Speaking to the media, Kumar said ride-hailing platforms like Ola and Uber cannot provide autorickshaw services till the government takes a decision.
Several passengers had complained of overcharging, after which the government has taken this action citing a violation of rules.
There are about two lakh autorickshaws in Bangalore.

Both passengers and drivers were upset with aggregators in the recent past due to exorbitant fares and a fall in income.
CM had ordered strict action
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday told media persons that he has asked the transport department to take strict action against app-based companies if they are found offering auto-rickshaw rides in Bengaluru without a valid license. . He had commented after reports surfaced that Ola, Uber, and Rapido were charging customers more on auto-rickshaw rides booked on their platforms.
This order does not apply to four wheelers
Earlier in the day, autorickshaw drivers had threatened to gherao the residence of Transport Minister B Sriramulu if the government did not intervene to resolve the problem. However, the officials clarified that no order has been issued against the taxi (four-wheeler) services offered by the companies.
