India's policy regarding the new situation in Bangladesh is slowly taking shape. Under this, contact with the interim government formed under the leadership of Professor Md Muhammad Yunus has been intensified and efforts are being made to show that the interest of Bangladesh and its people is important for India.
India can soon hold talks with the interim government
During the last two days, the interim government has also given a positive signal to India that it will not work with any prejudice regarding the bilateral relationship between India and Bangladesh. India hopes that once the situation in the neighboring country becomes normal, official talks with the interim government there can start soon.
How long will Sheikh Hasina stay in India?
On the other hand, there are indications that the stay of former PM Sheikh Hasina in India may be long. India has not put any pressure on Sheikh Hasina from its side whether she has to stay here or somewhere else. Officially, the Indian Foreign Ministry has said that it has no information about Hasina's plans, but Dainik Jagran has received information that India has left the right to decide on this to Hasina and her family.
Where is Hasina staying in India?
Hasina's family's first choice was said to be London, but the situation has not been clarified at the British government level yet. In this regard, there is contact between the foreign ministries of India and Britain. She has been kept in a very safe place in Delhi. There is constant contact regarding her needs, but in no way is she being made to feel that there is any pressure.
Can India's relations with the interim government of Bangladesh be affected by Hasina's long stay here? Regarding this, officials say, 'Everything is in a phase of change right now. Professor Yunus's government also has to decide what kind of elections they want to hold and when. Awami League is still the largest political party there, which has representatives in almost every house. We are also keeping an eye on whether elections can be held in Bangladesh without the Awami League. India's decision will be taken in the future given the steps taken by the interim government there.'
India made its stand clear
India has already expressed its intention that it is ready to work with Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina's tenure. This is the reason why last Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, 'For India, the interests of Bangladesh and its people are paramount.'
Will there be any impact on India-Bangladesh relations?
On Monday, when Tauhid Hussain, foreign affairs advisor in Mohammad Yunus' interim government, was asked whether Sheikh Hasina's stay in India would affect the relations between the two countries, his answer was, 'The relations between two countries cannot be affected by one person's stay in a country. Bilateral relations are determined by the interests of both countries. India has its interests and Bangladesh also has its interests.'
When Hussain was giving this statement, representatives of many missions and embassies based in Dhaka were present there. Earlier, Home Minister Sakhawat Hossain in the interim government had said that his government has no intention of banning the Awami League. It should be noted that last Monday when the situation in Bangladesh became very bad, Sheikh Hasina was brought to Hindon airport in a special military plane. It is being told that she has been kept at a safe place somewhere.
