India won six medals in the Paris Olympics in 2024, but the country's performance was worse than the 2016 Rio Olympics in ranking. India had sent a team of 117 players to Paris this year. This number was exactly equal to the Rio Olympics. We did win more medals than Rio but lagged far behind in ranking. India ranked 71st in Paris. This happened after 24 years in the Olympics when India's rank fell below 70. Earlier, India's rank was 71st in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and 1996 Atlanta Olympics. At the same time, India ranked 67th in Rio 2016 and India ranked 65th in 2004 Athens. India has so far won a total of 41 medals in the Olympics, including 10 gold, 10 silver, and 21 bronze.

 

India participated for the first time in the 1900 Paris Olympics, won two medals, and was ranked 17th. India did not participate in the 1904 St. Louis, 1908 London, and 1912 Stockholm Olympics. India did not win any medals in the 1920 Antwerp Olympics and 1924 Paris Olympics. India won one medal in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, one medal in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, one medal in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, one medal in the 1948 London Olympics, and two medals in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Apart from this, India won only one medal each in 1956 Melbourne, 1960 Rome, 1964 Tokyo, 1968 Mexico, 1972 Munich and 1980 Moscow Olympics. India did not win any medals in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, 1988 Seoul, and 1992 Barcelona Olympics. India won three medals including one gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and India was ranked 50. In the 2012 London Olympics, India won six medals and was ranked 55. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, India was ranked 48. India won seven medals in this and it was India's most successful Olympics in terms of medals.

 

India has won the most medals in field hockey in the Olympics. The country has got 13 medals including eight gold, one silver, and four bronze from this sport. After this, India has got the maximum eight medals in wrestling in the Olympics. Four medals have been won in athletics i.e. track and field, seven medals in shooting, three medals in badminton, two medals in weightlifting, three medals in boxing, and one medal in tennis. In the 2024 Paris Olympics, India won medals in hockey, athletics, shooting, and wrestling, but India did not get any medals in badminton, weightlifting, boxing and tennis.
