Israel-Iran conflict: 'Nuclear sites are safe', IAEA chief makes major statement amid Iran-Israel conflict

Amid rising tensions in the Middle East and the continued bombing of Iran, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has provided an important update.

The agency says that no nuclear facilities have been targeted in the conflict so far. This statement comes at a time when global concerns about regional security are at a high level.

IAEA chief Rafael Mariano Grossi confirmed this, adding that the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the Tehran Research Reactor, and other critical sites have been targeted.

Iranian officials are unable to be contacted

IAEA chief Grossi, addressing a special session of the Board of Governors in Vienna, said that the agency had repeatedly attempted to contact Iranian nuclear officials but had received no response due to the conflict. He stated, "Due to communication constraints caused by the conflict, no response has been received so far." Efforts to contact Iranian officials will continue.

Nuclear Sites at Risk

Grossi further stated that no increase in radiation levels above normal background levels has been observed in countries bordering Iran. Grossi warned that Iran and several neighboring countries have active nuclear plants, research reactors, and spent fuel sites, which could pose a threat in a conflict.

IAEA Appeal

The IAEA chief stressed that nuclear security risks in the region have increased. He said, "I once again urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent further escalation."
