Around 36 Amarnath pilgrims were injured on Saturday when five buses collided in Ramban district. The buses were part of a convoy travelling from Jammu Bhagwati Nagar to Pahalgam base camp in south Kashmir. The accident occurred around 8 am near Chandrakot on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, officials said. They said the collision occurred due to brake failure of one of the buses in the convoy.
Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan said, "The last vehicle of the Pahalgam convoy lost control and collided with vehicles stranded at the Chandrakot langar site, damaging four vehicles and injuring 36 passengers." He said the injured were rushed to the Ramban district hospital by government officials already present at the spot.
Several senior police officers visited the hospital to monitor the treatment of the injured and directed the chief medical officer to ensure better care. "The pilgrims were later shifted to other vehicles for the onward journey," the deputy commissioner said.
Ramban Medical Superintendent Sudarshan Singh Katoch said that the pilgrims were discharged immediately after first aid. Officials said that after replacing the damaged buses, the convoy left for its destination.
Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir District Hospital in-charge Medical Superintendent Dr. Mohammad Rafi said, 'A bus of pilgrims going on the Amarnath Yatra collided with another bus. A total of 36 injured patients came to us. All the patients have been treated here; we did not refer anyone to any other hospital. 10 patients have been discharged, and almost all the patients will be discharged in the next 1 hour.'
Jitendra Singh tweeted that a vehicle carrying Amarnath pilgrims met with an accident in Chandrakot, Ramban. 36 pilgrims have suffered minor injuries in this accident. All the injured are being treated at the District Hospital Ramban, and their condition is fine. There is no need to panic about this incident. The administration has made all the necessary arrangements for the passengers, and they are being constantly monitored. Information about the situation has been obtained by talking to Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Elias Khan.
