The Meteorological Department had issued a red alert for rain from 8 to 10 pm in the North West, North East, South West, and South East districts. During this time, there was a storm and lightning, along with light to moderate rain and hail. The rain gave relief to the people, but life was affected in many areas. In the last 24 hours, the minimum level of humidity in the air was 42 percent.
An official of the Meteorological Department said that the wind blew at a speed of 79 km per hour in Safdarjung. Hailstorm occurred in Lodi Road. Winds blew at a speed of 35 km per hour to 72 km per hour in Palam. The temperature in Palam was 37 degrees Celsius at 7:30 pm, which dropped by 14 degrees Celsius to 23 degrees Celsius at 8:30 pm. During this time, the temperature dropped in many areas.
He said that the cyclonic wind area in the neighbourhood of Haryana is contained in an east-west trough from Punjab to Bangladesh in the lower troposphere levels. Moisture is coming from the Arabian Sea as well as the Bay of Bengal. At the same time, moving southwards away from most parts of North, North-West, West, South-West, North-East Delhi, this storm is currently over South and East Delhi and Noida.
Possibility of rain on 23-24 May
The Meteorological Department has predicted rain on 23 and 24 May. During this time, it will be partly cloudy. Very light to light rain will be accompanied by lightning, and strong winds will blow at a speed of 20-30 kmph, which will temporarily reach 40 kmph in the evening and night, blowing dust. Hot and humid conditions will prevail during this period.
What was the temperature where
Aya Nagar had the highest temperature till 6 pm on Wednesday. The maximum temperature here was recorded at 41.4 degrees Celsius. Palam recorded 41.3, Ridge 40.8, and Lodhi Road recorded 39.8 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature. Also, the minimum temperature was recorded at 30.2 degrees, 3.5 degrees Celsius above normal.
The minimum temperature at the Ridge was the lowest as compared to other centers. The minimum temperature here was recorded at 27.6 degrees Celsius. Lodhi Road recorded 29.0, Palam 29.3 and Aya Nagar 29.8 degrees.
Trees fell in 25 places in New Delhi due to a strong storm, many roads remained closed
The strong storm and hurricane that hit the capital late Wednesday evening affected normal life. The speed of the wind was so high that incidents of trees falling were reported at more than 25 places in the New Delhi area. This blocked many major roads, affecting traffic.
According to the information received, the roads were closed due to the falling of trees on important roads like Pant Marg, Mahadev Road, Tughlaq Road, and Vinay Marg. NDMC officials said that they have received complaints of falling trees from about 25 places.
During the storm, trees also fell on vehicles at two-three places, although no injuries have been reported so far. Local agencies and fire department teams reached the spot and immediately started relief work and the roads were cleared. On the other hand, MCD received complaints of trees falling at 10 places.
