Covid-19: The variant spreading in India is proving to be 'lethal' in America, death figures raise concern

The rising cases of coronavirus are a cause of concern for the whole world these days. This time the outbreak started in countries like Hong Kong-Singapore, and China, and the risk of infection started increasing rapidly in the Indian population as well. Omicron and its sub-variants are considered to be the main reason for the rising cases. The highest number of infection cases are of the JN.1 variant and the sub-variants (NB.1.8.1 and LF.7) generated by the mutations in it.

The information being received from the US along with Asian countries is also increasing the fear of corona in the minds of the people. According to local media reports, not only are the cases of infection increasing here, but more than 300 people are also dying every week.

Dr. Tony Moody, Professor of the Infectious Diseases Division at Duke University Medical Center, US, says, the reality is that we are still seeing deaths, the coronavirus is not only spreading again but is also killing people.

The Indian variant is also active in America.

It is also worth noting here that the NB.1.8.1 variant, which is causing both infection and death cases in America, is the same variant that is currently being seen as the most active in India. Given the nature and risks of this variant, the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified it as a variant of monitoring, till now it was kept as a variant of interest. A variant of monitoring means that now this form of the virus requires attention and monitoring on a priority basis.

So can this variant, which is not considered very worrisome in most reports, actually be as dangerous as Delta? Looking at the increasing number of death cases in America, this question is natural.

What is the reason for the increasing death in America?

According to official data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 350 people died in the US last week. However, most of these deaths have been seen in people who were at high risk, such as those who already had comorbidities or weak immunity.

According to US CDC data, as of April, only 23% of adults aged 18 years and above have taken the updated Covid-19 vaccine. This figure is 13 percent among children.
