A resolution has been brought to the Municipal Corporation's house demanding to change the name of the Taj Mahal. Municipal Corporation Tajganj Ward Councilor has proposed to rename the Taj Mahal as Tejo Mahalaya. In the meeting to be held today i.e. on Wednesday, BJP councilor Shobharam Rathore will present this proposal in the session of the Municipal Corporation House.

They argue that in the last four and a half years in the Municipal Corporation, the names of about 80 roads and intersections have been changed. The demand to change the name of the Taj Mahal has also been rising for a long time. The place where the Taj Mahal is located, he is also the councilor of that area. The Taj Mahal is within the limits of the Municipal Corporation. Many signs related to Hindu civilization are said to be found in the Taj Mahal.

So he proposed to change the name. In this matter, Mayor Naveen Jain says that Councilor Shobharam has proposed to change the name of the Taj Mahal. The motion will be read and discussed in the House.

The name cannot be changed without the permission of the central government.

Even if the name of the Taj Mahal is passed by the Agra Municipal Corporation and becomes Tejo Mahalaya, the name of this protected monument of archaeological importance will not be changed in government documents. Only the central government has the right to change the name of any archaeological monument. In such a situation, the proposal coming in the Municipal Corporation today is being considered a political stunt only.

However, if the proposal is passed, Tejo Mahalaya will be written instead of the Taj Mahal in the municipal papers. ASI's superintendent of archaeologists Dr. Rajkumar Patel says that he has not received any such written information. So he cannot comment on this matter.

This is the reasoning behind the name change

Councilor Shobharam has given many arguments behind changing the name of the Taj Mahal. They say that the name Taj Mahal has been given by a foreign traveler. Which is an aberration of the original name Tejo Mahalaya.

The word palace is not associated with any cemetery in the world.

There is historical and written evidence that the said complex was the property of Raja Jai Singh, which was taken over by Shah Jahan.

Shah Jahan's love story seems fictional, as Shah Jahan had many wives.

Rani Mumtaz's real name was Arjumand Bano. The alleged Mumtaz died 22 years before the construction of the said monument in Burhanpur. How was Mumtaz's dead body kept safe for so many years? There is no explicit mention of this either.

Taj's old relationship with controversies

In May 2017, right-wing organizations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal protested at the Taj Mahal.

In November 2018, Meena Diwakar, district president of the National Bajrang Dal's women's wing, performed an aarti at the mosque inside the Taj Mahal complex.

In January 2021, four activists of Hindu Jagran Manch's Yuva Vahini recited Shiv Chalisa and waved saffron flags in the Taj Mahal complex.

Jagadguru Paramhans Acharya of Pithadheshwar Tapasvi Cantonment in Ayodhya was prevented from entering the Taj Mahal on April May 2022 with saffron robes and religious punishment.

On 7 May 2022, a petition has been filed in the High Court seeking direction from the Archaeological Survey of India to investigate the 22 closed doors of the Taj Mahal.

So that it can be ascertained whether there are idols of Hindu deities there. The petition also demanded that the laws made in 1951 and 1958 be declared against the provisions of the Constitution.

For the first time, controversy arose with the book of PN Oak

The Taj Mahal or Tejo Mahalaya controversy began after historian PN Oak's book "True Story of the Taj". Historian Rajkumar says that Oak had made several claims in his book about the Taj Mahal being a Shiva temple. Jai Singh's edicts were cited as an example of architecture. In addition to this, many figures of Ganesha, lotus flowers, and snake-shaped were seen in the Taj Mahal.
