Pakistan Cricket Board has postponed the announcement of the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. PCB said that some players are struggling with fitness and performance problems, due to which the squad announcement has been postponed.
Let it be known that ICC had given the deadline of May 1 to the teams participating in the T20 World Cup to announce 15 members. Teams can make changes to this till May 25, in which there is no need to take permission from the ICC or the World Cup Technical Committee.
When will the team be announced?
PCB source said that Pakistan will announce the squad for the T20 World Cup on May 23 or 24. The management and selectors are concerned about the injuries to Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan, Irfan Khan Niazi, and Harris Rauf and will test their fitness against Ireland and England.
The selectors will name the squad for the T20 International series against Ireland and England on Thursday and will analyze their performances before announcing the World Cup squad.
Why the decision to delay team selection?
The source said, “The delay in team selection does not matter as all the teams can make changes till May 24. The changes that will be made after this will be based on fitness or injury and for this, the permission of the technical committee will have to be taken. This is the reason why the PCB and the selectors have decided not to announce the squad until the first match against England.
Let us tell you that India, Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, Oman, and Canada have announced their squads. The source has informed us that the selectors want to give some time to captain Babar Azam and the players so that they can perform unitedly and strongly. The source said, “For the time being we have sent a temporary squad to the ICC due to promotion.
