Railways have laid off 177 employees in the last 16 months. According to the news agency PTI, officials said that every three days from July 2021, one corrupt official or non-performer of the Railways has been pulled out. So far 139 officers have been forced to take voluntary retirement, while 38 have been removed from service.

Officials said many of the 139 officers are those who resigned or opted for VRS after not getting promotions or being sent on leave. There are also cases where circumstances were created to compel them to opt for retirement.

Two senior grade officers were fired a day ago

An official informed me that two senior grade officers were sacked on Wednesday. One of them was caught by the CBI in Hyderabad with a bribe of Rs 5 lakh, while the other was caught in Ranchi with Rs 3 lakh. He said that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has been very clear about his message regarding the performance of 'work or sit at home'.

Officials told- We have taken out a corrupt railway officer every three days from July 2021. For this, the Railways has used Rule 56 (J) of the Personnel and Training Services Rules, which says that a government servant can be retired or dismissed after giving him a notice of at least 3 months or pay for an equal period. Is.

railway minister's warning to the employees

According to officials, the move is part of the Centre's efforts to weed out non-working people. Ashwini Vaishnav, after taking charge as Railway Minister in July 2021, has repeatedly warned officers to take VRS and sit at home if they do not perform well.

Employees of these departments were forced to VRS

According to sources, those who were forced to take VRS or were sacked mostly include officers of electrical and signaling, medical and civil services, and employees of stores, traffic, and mechanical departments.

Fundamental Rules and CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972

Under Voluntary Retirement (VRS), an employee is paid a salary equal to two months' salary for every year of remaining service. But the same benefits are not available in compulsory retirement. FR 56(j), FR 56(l) or Rule 48(1)(b) of the CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972 to the appropriate authority under the fundamental rules and the provisions relating to premature retirement in the CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972, as the case may be, a Government servant has every right to retire if it is necessary to do so in the public interest.
