Normal life has come to a standstill after heavy rains in many parts of Maharashtra. The situation has become such that two universities in the state either postponed the examinations or canceled them. At the same time, due to incessant rains in the low-lying areas in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh, adjacent to Mumbai, there has been flooding. Some cars were also reported to have been swept away by the strong current of water. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh for Thursday.

 

Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, received moderate rain with strong winds since Tuesday and more rains are likely in the next 24 hours, officials said. When asked about the rains in the Coastal and West Western Ghats regions of Maharashtra, IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that the region has received heavy rains due to strong winds from the Arabian Sea, a low-pressure area. However, he said that from Wednesday the rains will reduce in these areas.

 

The Kolhapur University examinations scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday have been postponed due to heavy rains and subsequent flood situations in the Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara districts of western Maharashtra. The Kolhapur district administration in a statement said that the new timetable for the exam will be announced later. The water level of the Panchganga river in Kolhapur has crossed the danger mark. Officials of the District Disaster Management Cell said that at 10 am on Wednesday, the water level of the Panchganga river at Rajaram Veer reached 40.2 feet, while the warning level is 39 feet and the danger mark is 43 feet.

 

Nagpur University also canceled the exam

 

At the same time, Nagpur University has canceled all its examinations scheduled for Wednesday because of heavy rains in the district and adjoining places of the Vidarbha region. Dr. Prafulla Sabale, Director, Examination and Evaluation Board of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaja Nagpur University, in a notification said that the next date will be announced soon and the same will be informed to the students as well.

 

Holiday declared in schools on Wednesday

 

At the same time, Pushyamitra Bhargava, Mayor of Indore in Madhya Pradesh told PTI that some cars were washed away on the flooded road leading to Sirpur Lake due to the strong water flow in the western parts of the state, but no casualties have been reported so far. is not news. Concerned over the situation arising out of heavy rains since Tuesday evening, the district administration declared a holiday in schools on Wednesday.

 

The next two days are important for Indore

 

An official of the Meteorological Department said that Indore recorded 108.9 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Wednesday. He said that the rain is likely to continue in the city for the next two days. We have sent civic teams to the low-lying areas of the city to help the affected people, the mayor said. They have been instructed that if needed, children, women, and elderly people should be shifted to safe places first.
