Defense Purchase Council approves purchase proposals worth Rs 84,328 crore for the armed forces

In a major step towards strengthening the indigenous defense sector, the Defense Ministry has approved requirement approval for 24 capital defense procurement proposals worth Rs 84,328 crore for the Armed Forces and the Indian Coast Guard. The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, in its meeting held on Thursday, gave its approval to the need for these proposals.

 

Includes two proposals for the Indian Coast Guard

These procurement proposals include six for the Army, six for the Indian Air Force, 10 for the Navy, and two for the Indian Coast Guard. According to the Defense Ministry, in this major procurement, 21 proposals worth Rs 82,127 crore (97.4 percent) have been approved for procurement from indigenous sources. This unprecedented initiative by the Defense Acquisition Council will not only modernize the Armed Forces but also give a substantial boost to the defense industry to realize the goal of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.

 

Plan to equip platforms and equipment

These approved proposals plan to equip the Indian Army with platforms and equipment such as future Infantry Combat Vehicles, Light Tanks, and Mounted Gun Systems. This will bring a big change in the operational preparedness of the Indian Army. According to the Ministry of Defence, these proposals also include the procurement of ballistic helmets with enhanced protection levels for the soldiers. While there are proposals for the purchase of Naval Anti-Ship Missiles, Multi-Purpose Vessels, and High Endurance Autonomous Vehicles.

 

This will increase the capabilities and sea power of the Navy. The Indian Air Force will be further strengthened with enhanced lethal capabilities by inducting a new range of missile systems, long-range guided bombs, range augmentation kits for conventional bombs, and advanced surveillance systems. Next Generation Patrol for the Coast Guard The procurement of the ships will enhance the surveillance capability in the coastal areas to new heights.
