Heavy snowfall in many areas of Himachal: Many roads including the Leh-Manali highway closed, and an advisory to tourists to avoid travel

The tribal districts of Lahaul Spiti and Chamba in Himachal Pradesh have received heavy snowfall. The high peaks of Pangi, Kilar, and Bharmour of Chamba received fresh snowfall last night. While the Manali-Leh highway was closed due to this, the roads of Lahaul-Spiti and higher areas of the Chamba district have also been closed for vehicles.

 

More than 20 roads closed

Because of the fresh snowfall, the Lahaul Spiti Police is also issuing an advisory to all tourists and local people to avoid unnecessary travel. Police have appealed to the people to exercise caution as the road has become slippery after the fresh snowfall. Traveling on such a road can be risky. According to the information received so far, more than 20 roads have been closed in Chamba and Lahaul Spiti. The PWD department is busy restoring these roads.

 

The vehicular movement stopped at Atal Tunnel

It has been snowing continuously since Wednesday at the end of Kullu Atal Tunnel Rohtang, after which the snowfall continued throughout the night, due to which the movement of vehicles has been stopped as a precautionary measure. Light snowfall has started in Pattan Valley too.

 

Chills increased in the state

After fresh snowfall in the higher reaches, the temperature has also dropped by 3 to 5 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature in Keylong dipped to 2.6 degrees Celsius and that of Kukumsery to 2.3 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Kalpa has fallen to 0, Narkanda 2.1 degrees, Kufri 3.6 degrees, Dalhousie 3.3 degrees, Manali 4.8 degrees, and Shimla 7 degrees.

 

Drizzle in many areas last night

Light rain has also occurred in many areas of the state last night. The highest was recorded at 10 mm in Palampur, 8.2 mm in Kukumsai, and .2 mm in Kalpa. Similarly, there has been drizzle in many other areas as well.
