Just before the start of the T20 World Cup, a five-match T20 series was played between India and New Zealand. India performed brilliantly in that series, defeating the Kiwis 4-1. However, they did not meet in the current T20 World Cup, and now the two teams will face each other for the title.

The T20 World Cup 2026 was hosted by India and Sri Lanka. India played seven of its matches at home, while its match against Pakistan was played in Colombo. Meanwhile, New Zealand played five matches in India and three in Sri Lanka. Interestingly, both teams have played T20 World Cup matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India has played two matches at this venue so far in the current tournament. In the group stage, the team defeated the Netherlands, while in the Super Eights, it lost to South Africa at the same venue.
