In a recent YouTube video, Samay Raina spoke about Amitabh Bachchan and his reality show, KBC.
During his performance, Samay Raina shared an anecdote regarding his time on KBC. He also took the opportunity to roast both Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. He remarked that while his public image was “cleaned up” following his appearance on KBC, he wasn’t actually being his authentic self on the show.
Samay’s Comment on Amitabh Goes Viral
Samay Raina revealed that a thought had crossed his mind to ask Amitabh Bachchan: “Sir, you did so many polio awareness ads—why, then, couldn’t you help your own son stand on his own two feet? I didn’t actually say that there, of course. Instead, I claimed that my grandmother was a huge fan of yours.”
Samay Lied on KBC
Samay Raina admitted that he had lied on the show when he claimed his grandmother was a fan of Amitabh Bachchan, as she had actually passed away seven years prior. Samay stated that one simply cannot be completely honest on the Indian internet; you cannot simply be yourself. Instead, you have to play the game and adapt to the prevailing atmosphere.
He Messaged the Head of the KBC Team
Samay Raina recounted that, following a controversy, Tanmay called him and advised him to seek assistance from a powerful contact. The stand-up comedian noted that, upon checking his contacts, he found only one major “source” at his disposal: the head of the KBC team. He explained, “I scoured my entire phone to see who my biggest contact was, and the most powerful contact in my phone turned out to be the head of the KBC team. When I appeared on KBC, he had really taken a liking to me. He had given me his number and told me to reach out if I ever ran into any trouble.”
Samay continued, “I was so desperate that my very first message to him was: ‘Can you help me? I am Samay Raina. Do you remember? I came on KBC, Sir—I made Amitabh Sir laugh a lot! Sir, please, do something!’ He replied, ‘What happened?’ To which I responded, ‘Do you really not know what happened?’” He said, “I’m in Singapore; what happened?” I replied, “Sir, BeerBiceps appeared on my show and cracked a joke—and people are absolutely furious. We are receiving death threats, Sir.”
Referencing Amitabh’s Sooryavansham Scene
He asked, “What joke did he crack? Send it to me.” I thought to myself, “If I actually send him this joke, I’ll end up getting a direct call from Amitabh Bachchan himself. He’d be like, ‘We gave this guy polio drops! Take the polio drops back! Feed him kheer instead!’” I simply didn’t have the courage to send him the video. How could I possibly face him after that? I just told myself, “Never mind. Amitabh Sir must surely have seen it by now; he is very active on Twitter.”
He had liked me so much—I had left such a positive impression on him—that when he saw me on the TV news, he must have assumed I had achieved something monumental. He probably thought, “He’s won the Param Vir Chakra!” and likely gathered everyone to celebrate. Instead, upon seeing me on the news, he must have felt like vomiting blood. It must have felt just like that scene from Sooryavansham for him. I’m sorry, Amitabh-ji. That night was the worst night of my life.
