Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a public rally in the Patharkandi assembly constituency of Assam’s Sribhumi district. He stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would not allow Assam to become a stronghold for infiltrators and appealed for the formation of a BJP government in the upcoming assembly elections. Taking aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Shah declared, “Rahul Baba, listen clearly: we will not let Assam become a haven for infiltrators.” He accused the opposition of engaging in vote-bank politics. Shah further asserted that the Congress party had neglected Assam’s Barak Valley and had done nothing for its development.
BJP Government Has Identified Infiltrators
The Home Minister claimed that the BJP has identified the infiltrators, and strict action will be taken against them. He urged the public, “Elect a BJP government; we have already identified the infiltrators. Now, the time has come to expel them, one by one.” Shah also stated that if BJP-NDA governments are formed in Assam, West Bengal, and Tripura, infiltration could be completely halted.
Pledge to Rename Karimganj to Sribhumi
Speaking on cultural issues, Shah remarked that only the BJP possesses the resolve to rename Karimganj to Sribhumi. He accused the Congress party of relying on infiltrators to secure political power. He affirmed that the BJP is committed to protecting the ‘Jati, Mati, and Beti’ (community, land, and daughters) of Assam.
Defense of the CAA
Lauding Prime Minister Modi, Shah highlighted that his government had accorded ‘Classical Language’ status to both the Assamese and Bengali languages. Furthermore, while defending the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), he accused the Congress party of opposing it solely for political gain.
Response to Mallikarjun Kharge’s Statement
Responding to a recent statement by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Shah asserted that labeling Gujarat as a “state of illiterates” is derogatory. He pointed out that this very land has been the birthplace of legendary figures such as Dayanand Saraswati, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, and Vikram Sarabhai. Polling for Assam’s 126-member Legislative Assembly is scheduled for April 9, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4.
