Regarding the Indian team going to Pakistan next year, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has said that the decision will be taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He said on Thursday (October 20) that the safety of the players is more important to us. The Asia Cup is to be held in Pakistan next year, but BCCI secretary and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah had said that Team India would not go to Pakistan. He had also said that the tournament would be held at a neutral venue. After that, the controversy started.
Anurag Thakur said that India is not in a position to listen to anyone. The Sports Minister said that the ODI World Cup will be held in India and the participating countries including Pakistan will be cordially invited and the tournament will go on as per the schedule. He said that the decision to send Team India to Pakistan will be taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs as there is concern about security in Pakistan.
The Sports Minister said, "It is a matter of BCCI and they will comment on it. India is a sports superpower, and many World Cups have been organized. The ODI World Cup will also be held in India next year and all the big teams from all over the world will take part in it. You can't ignore India in any sport. India has contributed a lot to sports, especially cricket, so next year the World Cup will be organized and it will be a grand and historic event.
What is the whole controversy?
Pakistan is stunned by Jai Shah's statement. The Pakistan Cricket Board has demanded an emergency meeting of the Asian Cricket Council on this matter. The PCB appealed to the ACC and asked the Asian Cricket Council to call an emergency meeting and decide on the matter. Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board had said that if India organizes the Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan at a neutral venue, then the PCB will demand to organize the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India at a neutral venue as well.
Team India went to Pakistan for the last time in 2008
The Indian cricket team last toured Pakistan in the year 2008. The 2008 Asia Cup was hosted by Pakistan. After this, the relations between the two countries went on deteriorated and India never visited Pakistan. The last time Pakistan visited India was in 2013.
