Tension is increasing between India and Canada regarding the killing of terrorist Najjar. Meanwhile, the USISPF has termed as unfortunate the Canadian PM Justin Trudeau's allegations against India last month without any concrete evidence.
Tensions between the two countries have increased after Trudeau accused Indian agents of linking them to the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June. India rejected these allegations outright and also expressed concern about the security of Indian diplomats and premises in Canada.
USISPF President and CEO Mukesh Aghi on Friday said it was unfortunate that Trudeau made allegations against India without any concrete evidence. This spoiled relations between the two countries. He said, 'Relations between the two countries are very old. There is a big trade between the two. More than 230,000 Indian students are studying there. Canada has invested about 55 billion dollars in India. Amidst all this, it is unfortunate that the Prime Minister of Canada goes to Parliament and makes allegations without providing any evidence.
Aghi said, 'I think sensible people need to handle the situation by talking peacefully. Because Canada is going to take advantage of America to put pressure on India.
In response to a question, Aghi said that US-India relations are geopolitical. It is linked to economic issues and Indian-American immigrants. The diplomatic dispute between Canada and India will impact India-US relations. However, relations will continue to deepen and expand in the times to come.
According to Aghi, the Canadian Prime Minister's allegations are motivated by domestic politics and his dependence on the Sikh-dominated party for his political survival. He said that there are two reasons behind this matter. Firstly, domestic politics, and secondly, the conversation between the PMs of the two countries was not good.
He said that the NDP is a Sikh-dominated party supporting Prime Minister Trudeau. This is sad because national interest should always take priority before pursuing domestic politics. The second factor is that the second conversation between PM Trudeau and PM Narendra Modi was not very warm. It seems that Trudeau was angry with this and this is clear from his statement in Parliament.
He said that India is an emerging power, if it wants to become a great power, it will have to become a responsible power. As far as the market is concerned, India's importance will become stronger as far as geopolitics is concerned. Aghi said, 'We have to understand that nations have to protect their interests.'
