Joshimath Sinking: Satellite pictures of ISRO revealed, Joshimath sunk 5.4 cm in 12 days

The National Remote Sensing Center of the Indian Space Research Organization has released satellite images of the Joshimath landslide for the first time. It is shown in the pictures that Joshimath city is sinking fast. All these pictures have been taken from the Cartosat-2S satellite.

All the scientists in the country are studying the cracks that appeared in the houses and roads after the landslide in Joshimath. Some satellite images related to the Joshimath landslide have been released for the first time by the Hyderabad-based National Remote Sensing Center of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

It has been told in the satellite pictures which area of Joshimath is sinking. In the satellite images of Joshimath released by ISRO, it can be seen which part of Joshimath is about to collapse. All these pictures have been taken from the Cartosat-2S satellite.

ISRO has taken stock of the Joshimath disaster from its satellite, whose pictures are quite frightening. According to the pictures released by ISRO, the entire Joshimath city will collapse. The yellow color marked by ISRO on the pictures is the sensitive zone. The whole city comes in this yellow circle. Looking at it, it looks as if the whole city is about to collapse. ISRO has also marked the army's helipad and the Narasimha temple. This report has been released by ISRO's National Remote Sensing Center in Hyderabad.

 

Rescue operation continues

 

The Uttarakhand government is running a rescue operation in Joshimath and the people of the high-risk areas are being shifted to safer places first. It has been told in the NRSC report that from April to November 2022, the case of land subsidence was slow. Joshimath has sunk 8.9 cm in these seven months. But from 27 December 2022 to 8 January 2023 i.e. 12 days, the intensity of land subsidence increased to 5.4 cm. That is, Joshimath suffered the most for 12 days.

The red stripes seen in the satellite images are roads. And the blue colored background is the drainage system under Joshimath city. There is a possibility of a big loss. In the pictures, the central part of Joshimath i.e. the center of the city has been circled in red color, which shows that this part is most affected by the landslide. The upper part of this depression is present on Joshimath Auli Road. Auli Road is also about to collapse.

Second, the lower part of Joshimath i.e. the base which is just above the Alaknanda river will also sink. Although this is the primary report of ISRO. At present, the study of the report is still going on. A landslide kinematics study is being done.

Joshimath city of Uttarakhand is situated at an altitude of about 6000 feet above sea level. Which is very important from a religious, historical, and strategic point of view. Joshimath falls in the earthquake zone 5.
