Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has strongly criticized the objectionable statement of stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra. CM Yogi said that freedom of expression does not mean that a person can use it to attack or insult another person. He said that the law should take action against those who are creating differences in the country. Kunal Kamra had called Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde a traitor without naming him. Shiv Sena workers had created a ruckus over this.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh said, 'Freedom of expression should be within the scope of constitutional values. Freedom of expression is within that scope only. Your freedom cannot be used to attack anyone else. Unfortunately, some people have considered it their birthright to increase the intention of dividing the country. I think the law should take action against those who are conspiring to create a rift in the country.'
Earlier, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis had also taken a tough stand on the alleged derogatory remarks. Speaking in the state assembly, he said that if freedom of expression hurts anyone, the government will not accept it.

The 36-year-old stand-up comedian had taken a dig at Shinde's political career in his show without naming him. He also referred to a major political upheaval in Maharashtra. Kamra had parodied a popular Hindi song from the film 'Dil To Pagal Hai'. In this, Shinde was called a 'traitor' without naming him. He also made jokes about recent political developments in Maharashtra, including the split of Shiv Sena and NCP.
Habitat Comedy Club was vandalized.
After the comment, Shiv Sena workers on Sunday night attacked the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar area of Mumbai. Kunal Kamra's show was held here. Along with this, the hotel in whose premises the club is located was also damaged.

According to news agency PTI, Shinde said at an event of a newspaper, "There is freedom of expression. We understand sarcasm, but there should be a limit to it.
