Congress has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his comments on the relevance of global organizations in an interaction with an American podcaster.

The Congress claimed that the Prime Minister is going out of his way to please US President Donald Trump and is repeating the words of his good friend.

Congress Communications General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said, "He (Modi) says that international organizations, which have benefited India a lot, have become irrelevant. This is the language of the US President.

President Trump is trying his best to make them irrelevant and now Modi is repeating the words of his good friend." He asked whether the WHO and WTO are not good for India. Is the Paris Agreement on climate change not good for India? Has the UN, despite all its weaknesses, not provided opportunities abroad for Indian peacekeepers?

He said that multilateral organizations need reform, but they should not be widely condemned as President Trump and Prime Minister Modi are doing.
