Preparations are underway to focus power generation capacity in India on non-fossil fuels soon. Power and Energy Minister RK Singh has made a big announcement regarding this. He has said that by 2030, the share of non-fossil fuels in electricity generation capacity will exceed 65 percent.
Speaking at a conference on Green Energy of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Energy Minister said, India has set a target to increase the share of non-fossil fuels in electricity generation capacity to 65 percent. There will be more than 90 GW of solar equipment manufacturing capacity by 2030. At present this capacity is 20 GW.
The Energy Minister said, about 15-20 GW of solar equipment manufacturing capacity is under construction. Apart from this, 40 GW capacity plants are being set up in India under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. During this, he also urged for a change in the manufacturing of high-efficiency solar equipment. He said the country already has 170 GW of renewable energy capacity, while another 80 GW is under construction. The country plans to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
