SCO Interior Ministers Meet: India demands strict action against terrorism in SCO meeting

Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai called for strong action against terrorism and drug trafficking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) interior ministers meeting in Uzbekistan. He also presented an account of the strong steps taken by India against Kovid globally. The Indian Embassy in Tashkent gave this information in a tweet.

 

Rai met with Tajik Interior Minister Ramzan Rahimzada and discussed bilateral security cooperation, training, and capacity building. Apart from this, he emphasized regional situations and issues of mutual interest. Rai also met Uzbekistan's Interior Minister Pulat Bobozonov, in which the two leaders discussed strengthening security cooperation, including tackling the challenges of terrorism and drug trafficking in the region.

 

Interpol Deputy Secretary General James Stephen called on Rai. During this, the preparations for the Interpol General Assembly to be held in India in October were discussed. In addition, there was an emphasis on expanding India's cooperation with Interpol to include new and emerging areas. Uzbekistan, the current president of the organization, will host the annual summit in Samarkand on September 15-16.

 

Foreign minister's meeting of SCO countries

 

Earlier, the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of SCO countries was also held in Tashkent. During this, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met his SCO counterparts and emphasized the success of the Samarkand summit. He tweeted, "Heightlined that the world is facing an energy and food crisis due to disruptions from the COVID pandemic and the Ukraine conflict. This needs to be dealt with immediately. Apart from India, the foreign ministers of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan also participated in the meeting.
