The Supreme Court has refused to interfere in the ongoing Hijab controversy in Karnataka. Congress leader and lawyer Kapil Sibal has filed a petition in the Supreme Court in this matter. The court has said to intervene in this matter after the decision of the Karnataka High Court.
During the hearing of the petition, the CJI said, 'First let the decision of the Karnataka High Court be heard today. After that, we will look into the matter. Sibal had urged the Supreme Court to transfer the petitions filed in the Karnataka High Court and hear them.
SC said- if we listen, the High Court will not hear the matter
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal appeared in the Supreme Court on behalf of the petitioners related to the Hijab controversy. Transferring the case from the Karnataka High Court to the Supreme Court, he demanded a hearing from the 9-judge Constitution Bench.
The bench said, "Today the hearing of this matter is going on in the High Court. So why intervene in this matter at the moment? The Supreme Court also refused to give any fixed date for the hearing and said that it will hear the matter only after the High Court decides. Simultaneously, the Supreme Court bench rejected his demand.
CM Basavaraj Bommai appeals to maintain peace
The hijab controversy has been declared a holiday in schools. Regarding this, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said- Holiday has been done in schools to maintain peace and order between the school premises and the students. I appeal to all the people not to do anything which will disturb the peace in the school premises and the state. Since the matter is pending in the court and a hearing is going on every day, we must create a peaceful atmosphere so that justice can be delivered.
The case was sent to the larger bench of the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the case of the hijab dispute in Karnataka was referred to a larger bench on Wednesday, which will hear today. Now the matter will be heard before a bench of Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice Krishna S Dixit, and Justice JM Khaji. A petition has been filed in the High Court seeking to allow the wearing of hijab in schools and colleges of the state.
