Weather Update: Cold wave in plains due to snowfall in Himachal-Uttarakhand, the mercury reached below zero

Due to snowfall on the high peaks of Himachal and Uttarakhand, the cold has increased in the plains. It is cold in the morning and evening. Snowfall started in Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Gangotri-Yamunotri on Tuesday afternoon. Areas like the Valley of Flowers, Hemkund Sahib, Tungnath, Madmaheshwar, Harsil, etc. are also covered with snow. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in the mountains on Wednesday. The temperature in Kedarnath Dham has reached minus 7.

 

The temperature increased in Kashmir but the minimum temperature is still below zero. In Srinagar too, Monday morning was the coldest of this season. The minimum temperature was recorded at minus 4.8 degrees Celsius. The weather department has predicted rain. Meanwhile, Meteorological Department Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra said that except in some parts of Central and North India, the maximum and minimum temperatures in December are expected to be above normal in most parts of the country.

 

 

At the same time, in Himachal Pradesh, there was sunshine with light clouds throughout the day on Tuesday. The weather remained bad in Kullu and Lahaul Valley from late Monday night till 9 am on Tuesday. Along with Rohtang, there has been fresh snowfall on the higher peaks including Baralacha, Seven Sister Peak, and Hanuman Tibba.

 

Amidst the change in weather, tourists also came here and had a lot of fun in the snow. Apart from this, a large number of tourists are also reaching Sissu and North Portal. Tourism in Kullu and Lahaul is expected to gain momentum due to the celebrations of New Year and Christmas. On the other hand, there was light snowfall on the Chamba-Bairagarh-Killad via Sach Pass route on Monday morning. The upper peaks of the Pangi tribal area, Susar Hills, Hudan Bhutori, Chask Bhutori, Sural Bhutori, Kumar Bhutori, and Hilutwan Bhutori have received snowfall of up to 10.16 cm. Due to this, the severity of cold in the lower areas has increased much more than before. At the same time, there was light snowfall in the upper peaks of Manimahesh, Kugati, and Kawarsi and cold in the lower areas of the tribal area of Bharmour. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was 22.7 in Una, 19.5 in Solan, 19.2 in Sundernagar, 18.4 in Kangra, 18.0 in Dharamshala, 17.5 in Nahan, 16.8 in Mandi, 15.5 in Chamba, 13.4 in Shimla, 12.3 in Manali, 4.2 in Kalpa and Keylong. 1.2 degrees Celsius was recorded.

 

Severe cold in Haryana, warning for five cities

Haryana recorded severe cold for the second consecutive day. The minimum temperature of Mahendragarh was recorded at 5.7 degrees on Monday night. There was chill even during the day on Tuesday. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of dense fog for five cities of the state. For the next three days, there may be fog in the morning in Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, and Karnal. Another western disturbance will be active from December 16.

 

Mercury reached minus 7 degrees in Kedarnath Dham

Snowfall started in Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Gangotri-Yamunotri on Tuesday afternoon. The temperature in Kedarnath Dham has reached minus 7. At the same time, the mercury has gone below zero in Gangotri-Yamunotri. Also, the low-lying areas are experiencing severe cold due to cloud cover.

 

The temperature reached minus 3.1 degrees in Samdo and minus 2.4 degrees in Kalpa.

Due to a change in weather in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, clouds fell on the peaks including Rohtang. There is a forecast of rain and snowfall again in the state on December 16. On Monday night, the minimum temperature was minus 3.1 in Samdo, minus 2.4 in Kalpa, 0.1 in Sundernagar, 0.5 in Narkanda, 1.2 in Manali, 1.6 in Solan-Bhuntar, 1.7 in Mandi, 2.2 in Kufri, 3.9 degrees Celsius in Shimla.

 

Punjab: Fog will cover 13 districts from today, yellow alert issued

A yellow smog alert has been issued in Punjab for two days from Wednesday. Dense fog will prevail in 13 districts of the state. These districts include Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Firozpur, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and SAS Nagar (Mohali). According to AK Singh, Director of Chandigarh Center of Meteorological Department, visibility will be 50 to 200 meters in many areas in the next two days. Cold is likely to increase in the coming days. Drivers have been advised to exercise caution in dense fog.
