Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has inaugurated the Tripura Film and Television Institute (TFTI) under the Kolkata-based Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Agartala. SRFTI Director Himanshu Shekhar Khatua said that the classes for the first batch of TFTI with 47 students will start in the first week of December.
He said that SRFTI has initially designed short-term courses and shortly Diploma, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate courses would be started in the institute. Addressing the opening ceremony, famous Bangladeshi actor Firdous Ahmed said that many people from his country would get a chance to study at the institute. A film festival will soon be organized by the Government of Tripura and Bangladesh in Agartala, he added.
Describing the inauguration of TFTI as a historic event, the Chief Minister said the institute would provide opportunities to the talented youth who want to pursue a career in filmmaking, production, and acting. Dignitaries including Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma, and Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushant Chowdhary were present.
