Political uproar over IGI Airport Terminal-1 accident, Kharge attacks Modi government; BJP gives a befitting reply

Due to heavy rains in the capital Delhi on Friday, a major accident occurred due to the collapse of a part of the roof of T-1 of IGI airport. Mallikarjun Kharge targeted BJP over the accident

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has targeted the Modi government over the accident at IGI airport. He said that this accident has exposed the corruption that happened in the last 10 years. He said that the BJP government is responsible for criminal negligence for the roof of T-1 of IGI airport which collapsed like a pack of cards.

Civil Aviation Minister hits back

Amid the political uproar that started after the roof of Terminal-1 of Delhi's IGI Airport collapsed, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said that this structure was built in 2009. Pointing to the misinformation being spread about the inauguration of the structure, he said that this structure was built in 2009.

The minister said that PM Modi had inaugurated some other building, not Terminal-1. The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government was in power at the time of the construction and inauguration of the canopy.

Earlier, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge attacked the Center over this incident. He wrote on X that the Modi government is responsible for corruption and criminal negligence.

Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on X that the collapse of the roof of Delhi Airport (T1), the collapse of the roof of Jabalpur Airport, the poor condition of the new roads of Ayodhya, the Ram Mandir leakage, the cracks in the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Road, the collapse of 13 new bridges in Bihar in 2023 and 2024, the submergence of the Pragati Maidan tunnel, the collapse of the Morbi bridge in Gujarat tragedy, are some of the clear examples that expose the big claims of Modi and the BJP to create "world-class infrastructure".

The Congress chief also said that on March 10, when PM Modi inaugurated the Delhi Airport T1, he called himself a 'human of the other soil'. He has suffered the brunt of a corrupt, inept, and selfish government.

The Civil Aviation Minister inspected Delhi Airport

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Minister inspected the spot at the Delhi airport. He said that we have asked the Delhi International Airport Limited to do verification and inspection on their part. But we are not leaving it to them. On behalf of the ministry, we have DGCA, which looks into the security aspect. Which will monitor this inspection and submit its report.

The minister said that on behalf of the ministry, I can assure you that it has been taken as a serious issue not only at this airport but across the country, where there are similar structures. He said that all the airports in the country will be investigated. We will conduct a thorough investigation of all the airports under our purview.

Said that we will prepare the necessary report and see whether an independent body is required for this or not. One person died and eight others were injured when the roof collapsed at Terminal-1 of Delhi Airport amid heavy rains on Friday.
