There has been a drastic reduction in incidents of violence in India in recent years. This claim has been made in a new book. The upcoming book 'Internal Security in India: Violence, Order, and the State' by US-based political scientists Amit Ahuja and Devesh Kapur states that terrorist incidents in India have declined by 70 percent since 2010. . According to the book, incidents of violence have come down in India in the last 20 years.

 

In their research, Professor Amit Ahuja of the University of California and Professor Devesh Kapoor of John Hopkins University examined official documents over the past several decades, studying political violence, ethnic and religious violence, terrorism, and incidents such as political assassinations and plane hijackings. . After studying the documents, both found that there has been a decrease in incidents of violence in India. There were many incidents of violence in the country between 1970 and 2000, but since then there is a decline in it.

 

 

It has been told in the book that since the Gujarat riots of 2002, such large-scale ethnoreligious killings have not taken place in India. Although there were riots in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh in 2013 and the national capital Delhi in the year 2020, it has been claimed that a total of 90 people died in both these riots, which shows that the factors of violence still exist in India. . The Sikh riots of 1984, the 1983 riots against Bangladeshi Muslims in Assam have also been mentioned in the book.

 

According to the Global Terrorism Index 2020, 8,749 people have lost their lives in terrorist incidents in India since 2001. However, it has declined since 2010. If we leave Kashmir, there has been a 70 percent reduction in terrorist incidents in India since 2010. According to the book, there were 71 terrorist incidents in the country between 2000 and 2010, which have come down to just 21 after 2010. There was a lot of Hindu-Muslim violence in the country from 1970 to the 2002 Gujarat riots. Now government data shows that at present the incidence of Hindu-Muslim violence in the country is stable. Between 2017 and 2021, there were more than 2900 such incidents which is much less than before.

 

There has also been a decrease in the incidents of political violence and political murder. Violence at polling stations has also come down by 70 percent.
