'Whether the Dollar Goes Up or Down...' Salman Khan Steps Up in Support of Rajpal Yadav; Actor Faces Taunts Over ₹9 Crore Cheque Bounce Case

Actor Salman Khan shared a post on Tuesday in support of his fellow actor, Rajpal Yadav. This post comes in the wake of a remark made at a recent awards ceremony—a comment widely perceived as mocking Rajpal’s ongoing check-bouncing case.

What is the case?

Specifically, a clip surfaced from the Screen Awards 2026, held in Mumbai on Sunday, in which the host made a comment referencing Rajpal Yadav’s check-bouncing case. The host remarked, “Rajpal bhai, no matter how much the dollar rate fluctuates, you will still have to repay the exact amount you borrowed.” This drew laughter from both the audience and Rajpal Yadav himself.

Video Goes Viral on Social Media

Responding to this comment, Rajpal paused briefly before smiling and saying, “At least listen to the actual issue once! I actually want to explain the real situation.” This video quickly went viral on social media, prompting viewers to express their disapproval and troll the host for his remarks. Many people stated that the host’s comment was highly inappropriate.

Salman Khan Extends Support

Following this incident, Salman Khan posted on X (formerly Twitter) to express his support for Rajpal Yadav. He wrote: “Rajpal bhai, you have been working for 30 years, and all of us have cast you repeatedly because you know your craft and bring immense value to your work. You will continue to receive plenty of work—and at the very same dollar rates—for years to come. That is the reality. And remember this: sometimes things just slip out in the flow of conversation. If you truly intend to give back, keep it in your mind but work from the heart; whether the dollar goes up or down, what difference does it make? Ultimately, the repayment is being made right here in India.”

The Screen Awards 2026 ceremony was held in Mumbai on April 5, where the film Dhurandhar emerged as the night’s biggest winner, taking home 14 awards.

What is Rajpal Yadav’s check-bouncing case? Actor Rajpal Yadav is embroiled in a long-standing check bounce case involving a sum of ₹9 crore. This case stems from a loan taken in 2010 for his directorial debut, the film ‘Ata Pata Lapata’. After failing to fulfill multiple promises to repay the money, he surrendered at Tihar Jail in February 2026, following which he was granted interim bail. The Delhi High Court has expressed dissatisfaction over his failure to comply with the rules, as an outstanding amount exceeding ₹7 crore still remains unpaid.
