Dibrugarh University ragging case: three hostel wardens suspended, new ones to be appointed

Dibrugarh University Ragging Case: The university administration has taken major action in the Dibrugarh University ragging case. Dr. Jiten Hazarika, Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, has suspended three hostel wardens. At the same time, he has informed us that three new wardens will be appointed in their place. Earlier, the registrar's office of Dibrugarh University expelled 21 students accused of their alleged involvement in ragging junior students. On the other hand, the police detained four accused students, out of which one of the main accused Niranjan Thakur has been arrested. Earlier, the Chief Minister of Assam had expressed his deep displeasure over the ragging incident coming to the fore and directed the university to deal strictly with ragging. At the same time, State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that such incidents will not be tolerated. He had instructed the police to take strict action in the matter.

 

The student jumped from the second floor of the hostel

According to media reports, Anand Sarma, an M.Com first-semester student of Dibrugarh University in Assam, jumped from the second floor of his hostel to escape ragging. Anand Sarma was allegedly physically and mentally abused by some students of the university hostel. Terrified of being harassed, Anand jumped off the hostel building to escape the ragging. Due to this, he got many injuries. He has been admitted to a city hospital in critical condition.

 

Following the complaint of the relatives, the police have registered an FIR in the matter under section 120B/341/395/307/143 of the IPC. City Superintendent of Police said that one accused Niranjan Thakur has been arrested while three others have been detained in connection with ragging, robbery, and attempt to murder. At the same time, 21 students have been expelled from the university so far. The police are investigating the matter. The matter of physical and mental harassment of the victim student has also come to the fore.
