The biggest hurdle in resolving the deadlock between the agitating farmers and the government is the legal guarantee on procurement at MSP. However, the truth is that during the tenure of the Modi government, not only has there been a record increase in MSP, but a large number of farmers have also been included in the scope of government procurement. There has also been a record increase in grain storage capacity in the last 10 years.
In 10 years, the MSP of paddy increased by about 64 percent and that of wheat by 58 percent. The Modi government has paid Rs 7.78 lakh crore more to farmers on paddy and about Rs 3.18 lakh crore more on wheat as compared to the 10 years of the previous UPA government. More than Rs 12,18,156 crore was spent on the MSP of paddy in the Modi government compared to Rs 4,40,496.78 crore in the UPA government. About Rs 2,26,813 crore was spent on wheat during the tenure of the UPA government, while Rs 5,44,332 crore was spent during the tenure of the Modi government.
100 percent increased capacity
During the tenure of the Modi government, more than a 100 percent increase in food storage capacity was also recorded. Apart from this, the government last year started a plan to develop 700 lakh tonnes of grain storage capacity in the cooperative sector.
These efforts were also made
The demand for Sri Anna meaning coarse grains is increasing in the world. Last year was declared the International Year of Millets due to the efforts of PM Modi. Due to the efforts of the government, the production of grain this year was 17.32 lakh tonnes.
