Murshidabad Violence: People migrating towards Jharkhand, many families stopped in Malda; taking shelter in relief camps

Several families have been displaced following protests in Murshidabad over the Waqf (Amendment) Act, with many of them migrating to Jharkhand's Pakur district, while others have taken refuge in relief camps set up in Malda. An elderly man who migrated to Jharkhand's Pakur broke down while narrating his ordeal during the Murshidabad violence.

 

Suddenly some people came and started vandalising.

 

Speaking to ANI, he said, "I don't know what happened. I opened my shop in the morning and sat outside. Then several people came and started banging on the doors, throwing bricks and breaking the doors. My television, my mirror, my furniture, 2-3 cupboards and all my money was at home. We came here the day before yesterday night."

 

The rioters burnt their houses and everything.

 

Despite the deployment of police and central forces, people are still in fear in the violence-hit areas of Murshidabad-Suti, Dhuliyan, and Jangipur. The victims say that the rioters burnt their houses and everything. They fear that they may be attacked again after the police and central forces leave.
