Pandora Papers leak creates panic in Pakistan: Names of 700 Pakistanis, including close friends of Imran Khan, a family of ministers, and military officers' bank accounts in Panama

Pandora Papers leak has created panic in the politics of Pakistan. There are 700 Pakistanis on this list. The names of family members of many ministers of the Imran Khan government are also on this list. These include Water Resources Minister Moonis Elahi, Industries Minister Khusro Bakhtiyar, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, and MP Faisal Wawda. Apart from the leaders, the names of army officers are also included in the list.

 

After the revelations of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, Pakistan's opposition has started surrounding the government. The main opposition party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has sought the resignation of the government after the Pandora leak. The party said that Imran Khan's name could also be in the Pandora Papers leak, before that his name had also appeared in the Toshkhana case, so Imran should resign from his post immediately.

After the report surfaced, Pakistani PM Imran Khan has clarified. He has said that the people whose names have appeared on the list will be investigated. Strict action will be taken against the culprits. Imran has appealed to the international community to take this issue as seriously as climate change.

The Panama Papers were leaked by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in 2016. Then the world came to know how rich people invest their black money in tax havens like Panama. Now the documents of the Pandora Papers investigation have started coming out regarding Panama itself. These have also been prepared by ICIJ.

The Central American country of Panama is counted among the tax haven countries. Here rich people can get citizenship by paying money. The rules and regulations of investment are very simple. The names of the rich of many countries of the world including India were revealed in the Panama Papers leak.

 

The government of Panama had issued a letter

The Panamanian government feared that the Pandora Papers could seriously damage its image in the world. This is the reason why he had issued an official letter to ICIJ through a legal firm not to issue the paper. The letter said the release of the documents would create a false impression about Panama.

 

How was the investigation done?

ICIJ said on social media that they have examined 120 million documents worldwide. 600 journalists from 117 countries have participated in the investigation.

 

What was the Panama Papers Leak Scandal

This was part of an investigation into foreign leaks and an effort to trace the people behind the nearly 3.2 lakh foreign companies and trusts linked to it. This confidential information gathered from the data center of Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca was discussed as 'Panama Papers'. Data of more than 1.15 crore files of Mossack Fonseca was leaked. Then the information was given from 1977 to the end of 2015.
